I posted these in another thread, but since I have the pics readily accessible, just thought I'd inject some life into this great thread.

Here are some early athletics pennants...

That Connie Mack pennant is one of the most aesthetically pleasing pennants ever made. Gorgeous. On another note, the vertical designs never made much sense to me. How do you wave these pennants? I have one vertical pennant from the teens (or earlier), much less appealing to the eye, banished to the door to the heater because it doesn’t fit with the others’ display.

Geez Greg...

How big is that damned room? Just when you think you've seen it all, there's another nook, cranny or entire wall you've never seen before.

That's a good point about vertical pennants. Perhaps they were made more for hanging on a wall than waving at the game. Regardless, I'm glad someone thought to invent them!

I sometimes forget the magnitude of Greg’s collection until he posts panoramic pictures, like he has recently. And, look! Even though he’s not a Giants collector, he’s got that super tough one, hiding behind the post.

Greg and Mark are whales.

I'm snowed in, so maybe it's a good time for some Trench Giants minutiae. This may be of interest to no one other than bocca, but who knows? And bocca may have already figured this out...

I'm not smart enough to type text, add pics, type more text, add more pics (maybe you have to "embed" the pics to do that?) so I'll do a few posts.

I have eight examples of "The Giant on the Bridge." I'll occasionally buy another with a new felt color or a new lettering color. I'm not too concerned about spine color although, coincidentally, 7 of the 8 have a yellow spine and only one has an orange spine. Anyway, here's the minutiae....I just noticed that if Francisco has what I call the "backwards F" (green example), the "Giants" will always be bigger than with the other F. My "Giants on the Bridge" are split 4/4 between the two types and this is a consistent pattern. Can anyone show an anomaly?

Trench Giants minutiae #2...

The "left handed batter" also was done with different F's although the backwards one seems much more rare. Of the eight left handed batters I have, only one has the backwards F. That one also has the biggest "GIANTS." The two lines of "text" vary in length and size on the other seven, meaning there were different screen designs.

And, oh snap....I just noticed the two forward F's I've shown are different.

And, finally, the forward F's on the 3/4 (black) and horizontal bat varieties are different again. I'm assuming the horizontal bats are also Trench?

We're all pennant geeks...I hope at least some of you found my observations interesting . If you're also snowed in, check your specific team Trenches for oddities.

The most noticeable difference between the two forward Fs is the change in hairstyle from late 50s early 60s "high and tight" to mid-60s Beatles mop top.

Good stuff. I only have one Giant on Bridge pennant, its a weird turquoise color. The Mullin Giant has some subtle differences, looks like he wore a belt in NY but got rid of it in SF, also changed his undershirt and socks … LOL

If you're anything like me, you've got a stack of lesser condition and/or "why did I buy this" pennants that you don't know what to do with and aren't worth the time and effort to sell. Well, I think I've found the solution and with Christmas right around the corner, the timing couldn't be more perfect.

You're welcome!

Yes I was psyched to pick up that Candlestick pennant. So hard to find. The NY Giants pennant is another toughie, I see this now and then in 3/4 size but this was the only I’ve seen full size and got it a long time ago.
