Default 1953 Bowman Color #51: Monte Irvin
Monford "Monte" Irvin. Left fielder for the NY Giants in 1949-1955 after all-star performances in the Negro National League and the Mexican League and service during WWII. First black player to play for the New York Giants. With Willie Mays and Hank Thompson, part of the first all black outfield in MLB. 1952 All-Star. 1954 World Series champion. 1951 NL RBI leader. San Francisco Giants #20 retired. 1973 MLB Hall of Fame. 5-time Negro League All-Star. 1946 Negro League World Series champion.

Was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and suffered tinnitus post war. The nick in top border is not standard but fairly common
