My take is that off back has become popular with people doing binder sets and aiming to have them be anything but Piedmont or Sweet Cap. Not too many people want to have the true rare backs in a binder, so I think the off back generally has cards split into three groups without any real groups of the backs beyond "rare": 1) Piedmont/Sweet Cap, 2) Off backs = Tougher than Piedmont/Sweet Cap up to Hindu, 3) Rare backs = Hindu and tougher.

And here are some of mine that would fall into that rare category.

Never pursued the T206s with any great vigor. Have maybe a quarter of the set, half of them being all the New York Giants. Was always happy to get one that wasn't a Sweet Cap or a Piedmont. Got a kick out of the designs and the typography. As for the esoterica and the rarities I mostly left that for others. Even so, perusing this thread has been a treat. To this awesome gallery humbly submitted are a few of my non-Sweet Cap/Piedmont T206s. One or two might even qualify as rare backs.

I may be an exception to the rare backs in binders. Here's one of my favorite pages out of my set...if only I could find a Konetchy Red Hindu or BL460 to round the backs out.
