Some nice pick ups from members so far. Bob, congrats on closing out your almost 50 year quest, quite an accomplishment.

Val and Leon, thanks for the good wishes. Ed, yes, Dave was kind enough to let go of this one from his PC. Fun stuff.

Default Vintage hockey on fire

Picked up these two C56 key hockey rookies. There have been PSA registry fights going on in the C55, C56 and C57 that have exploded prices recently. These are really fun vintage cig cards and the only sport besides baseball to have substantial prewar sets. Trying to finish these sets so had to grab a couple nice but lower graded examples from the dupes sold off by the registry contestants.

Attachment 574349Picked up this lot at the WSSCA show. There was some really incredible stuff in the room, especially for PCL collectors.

I spent quite a bit of time in that corner, and there were at least a few folks looking at those transit passes.

I was the underbidder on this. Absolutely stunning example with rectangular corners and very little chipping compared to other low grades!

41 Play Balls are underrated. Great set. Really fun to flip through the pages. Need about 5 more to complete. Picked up this Eddie Miller (somewhat tough card in nice shape, number 1 card).

Thanks Peter and it’s been a while… Thanks to Adams book I read years ago, I picked this 26-29 Exhibit up which we know should be 1925-31. Plus having the blank back makes it part of the first print run dating it to 1925, as they had the various postcard backs soon after.

Default Big mail day for the collection

Kruger, McElveen, Miller, Rossman, and Spencer all came from Greg Morris Cards via eBay (actually they were part of a lot from an REA auction in May that had a group of Howe’s stamped cards).

Schmidt was one I missed when Scott was auctioning off the large lot he won from Goldin. But I knew who the winner was, and he recently contacted me to see if I might still be interested in adding him with the rest. As a surprise, he had also found a Phelan with the Urich H. McCormick - Agent, Saturday Evening Post stamp (so far only found in green) so I got it also.

These bring the total up to 390 different Howe-stamped cards on the way to trying to build a complete set, with 17 of those being his Saturday Evening Post stamps.

Thanks Phil. Weirdly the guide showed up in my mailbox, directly from the seller and bypassed the authenticator.

After over 2 years of trying to educate an eBay seller what he had, I finally got this for my original offer. The seller had listed a ton of 5.00 or less crap-o-la and this item. Of course he acts like it’s the Holy Grail, and that he is representing a consignor. He ended up completely copying Dan McKees description of another currency, and started it out around 5k. Slowly he kept lowering the price and it became a quarterly thing for me to make the same offer and ask him if he was tired of paying all the fees to show it. He finally accepted and now I don’t have to see it pop up every time I do my currency search. First time I’ve made an eBay purchase in over a year as well, and after my purchase eBay wanted me to take a sports card survey which I was happy to really let them know how bad their platform has become for pre war sport cards.
