Hey, pennant guys

It is a vertical full-sized pennant. Not over sized or 3/4 size. The other known Reds pennant from 1919 is also full-sized, but horizontal.

It's not conclusive, but after so many years of collecting these things, I believe oversized pennants were gone prior to 1919. I think it's a good bet that oversized Major League Baseball pennants were made from the 1900s up until 1917 (perhaps 1918).

If anyone has any evidence to the contrary, please post it!

I know there's a BST, but thought this would get a better response here...

Does anyone have a nice condition 1969 or 1965 All Star Game Pennant they would sell or trade? Perhaps someone has a duplicate? Neither is all that rare or exotic, but I'd like to complete the ASG pennant run I have going. Just checked eBay, and neither one is currently listed.

I never went after the 1969 version because it looks cheap and mass-produced. It kind of represents the end of the "artistic pennant" era. I never went after the 1965 version because I hate Picture Pennants. But now I regret having 2 holes in the pennant run. Just need 1965 and 1969, if anyone is looking to sell/trade.

Ps. We are shooting a TSOG Video today, on All Star Game Pennants, to air during All Star Week. I just realized these voids when I pulled them all out... DUH

Yankees cloth 1950s, made by the same mystery company that did the 1955 WS with the forked tip and is also technically oversized.

And of course the 1969 ASCOs which are almost six feet long … better classified as jumbo sized

Well obviously, I stand corrected on a technical level. And come to think of it, those Hall of Fame Pennants with all the players' busts are oversized too. But in the true spirit of the thing, I was more contemplating when they abandoned the jumbo sizes of the teens, and switched to what we now know as full-sized pennants becoming the norm.

On a side note... those are beauties. And if the Mets is for sale/trade, please drop me a note!

Yeah I think you are basically correct, there are only a few isolated counter examples. The only dated pennants I�ve seen from the 1920s are all just full-size or smaller.

As for the Mets - thanks! - and will do. I somehow got one that was not faded. Here�s the 1969 dated version, which raises questions since it is sans MLB trademark.

Greg loves showing off those �jumbo size� pennants. I don�t blame him. I�m just glad there�s not a Giants. I couldn�t stand it.

There may be a Giants! I bought these in two groups, a couple years apart. The person who sold me the Dodgers and Angels claimed that those pennants were displayed at the 1969 ASG in Washington D.C. The Dodgers had bleeding on the spine (which I was able to clean). Turns out that the game was first rained out and rescheduled, which gives some credence to the claim, if the bleeding was caused by the rain. But very far from conclusive, obviously. The other four have grommets in the spine but those two don�t.

I have seen the Twins and the Reds, so I know that eight teams exist. I think it�s likely they were made for all teams, and I�d give an arm for either a Pilots or Phillies.

There probably is a Giants. I just don�t want to see it�.unless it�s in my hot, little hands.

Yep it never saw sunlight, the blue cloth is still very bright. It’s definitely vintage. The question is if it is Trench or not. All other signs point to ‘yes’ but the other Trench 1969 Mets (notably with the roster) have the trademark.
