I know Hubbell won two MVPs also but not back to back. Are there any others besides him and Newhauser?
To win two total I mean. Last edited by packs; 09-05-2023 at 02:29 PM. |

I think Walter Johnson was the first player to win multiple MVPs

Oh wow. I didn't realize Walter had two MVPs too.
If Ohtani wins this year, does he go down as another two time pitcher? Pretty small club. Last edited by packs; 09-05-2023 at 02:54 PM. |

How does Babe Ruth win only one MVP award?

Nolan Ryan never winning a Cy Young Award is what amazes me.

So I think Walter Johnson won MVP twice and the Babe only once because from 1911-14 it was the Chalmers Award presented by the Chalmers Automobile Company. WaJo won it in 1913 and the Babe's first year was 1914.
There was no MVP award from 1915-21. From 1922-1929, the MVP award was reinstated and became the “League Awards”, during which time, both the Babe and WaJo won only one award, because, according to the rules, a player was only allowed to receive the recognition once. There was no award in 1930, and in 1931 Left Grove won it with a 31-4 record and 2.04 ERA (Babe Ruth finished 5th, but still probably deserved to win it). The Babe was no longer as dominant from 1932 to the end of his career in '35. Last edited by cgjackson222; 09-05-2023 at 06:54 PM. |

Actually two of those 200 plus OPS years he finished 5th and 6th. Insane. Last edited by packs; 09-05-2023 at 07:12 PM. |
