Jolly, fantastic '72s. My favorite set of the decade! Good luck on getting your SGC slabs back - is that today?

This was in my mailbox about half an hour ago. I got lucky the slab was not cracked with bozo seller using a thin bubble mailer and nothing else, but I will take it!

Sometime back, I had sold my last card picturing Willie as a NY (and not SF) Giant, and I felt a void in my collection. This won't win any 2nd glances from the centering crowd, but anymore I go for strong image and color quality before all else as long as a card is not miscut - and this fit the bill. I sold a nice copy of this card when I was 15 in the early 90's for 70 bucks, I remember for whatever reason. Unfortunately today they aren't quite that cheap, but at least I own one again. Happy October all!

I got this card at a show maybe 6 months ago, with a few others. Guy was selling some really nice raw 56s, and this one in particular was a standout. When SGC dropped their price recently I figured I would send this in and it should get a 7 maybe even an 8. Well it got an 8 and looks terrific in a slab. As many people here already know, Sammy White was a solid catcher for the Red Sox in the 1950s who opened bowling alleys after retirement. They used to film candlepin bowling from his Brighton alley back in the 70s and 80s. Those Saturday shows hosted by Don Gillis were hugely popular. The bowling alley also had an horrific quadrouple murder back in 1980, but came back and stayed in business until 1986 before it got bought out by an Acura Dealership that is there to this day. My mom used to take me and my sis there back in those days, although I recall her not letting us go for a while in 1980 and 81. Anyhow, I have never been nutty about 56s, but this one has me changing my tune. .

Was at a show yesterday and this guy had a bin of "uncommon commons" from the 1960s. I wasn't really in the market but I started thumbing through and these cards looked like they came from a time machine. Absolutely blazing colors, sharp corners. Seeing as how they were in the $2 bin I picked several out and figured when I got home I'd find a microscopic wrinkle here or there, but no. These cards are F'n beautiful and are unexpected adds to my raw post war collection.

On Saturday, my best friend who I consider as my brother gave me his baseball cards that he collected as a kid- 1967-1972. The largest group was the 1968 Topps- 420/598. The 1967 and 1969 groups have less than half of the available cards (there were no 1967 high #s). None of them contain any of the major stars and the condition in general is very good at best and I'm going to finish them as they are. I'm going to start with the 1969 set as it is the least expensive to complete. Hopefully, I can get the missing cards through trades.
