Like you say, past sales are $5 dime rolls and inexpensive comic books. What was all that about "in their original English language." ? Not a buyer.

I'd wager the auctions are legit. Wading through his old feedback it looks like he sold thousands of of silver coins (one lot brought over 4 grand), and that's just from the feedback left. I tend to find only 1 in every 10 or so buyers leave any feedback nowadays. He's probably slowly sifting through a relatives estate or something. Not surprising a bunch of old cards that the uneducated might guess were just a bunch of beaters, were buried in there somewhere. That said, I do find some of the descriptions humorous and a little bit sad about the incoming AI listing revolution it looks like lots of sellers are already using as a crutch. From this listing of 5 rough T206 Piedmonts with a Ty Cobb: https://www.ebay.com/itm/15586703549...kAAOSwHPRlRP5Z Description: "This listing is for a set of five OBAK 1911 baseball cards, one of which features the legendary player Ty Cobb. The cards are of the single product type and are original, not licensed reprints. They belong to the T212 series and are considered vintage cards. The sports trading cards are in English language and were manufactured in the United States in 1911, during the Pre-WWI era." ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Agreed. Probably just poor use of AI. I still think he got pretty good value, perhaps knowing that coming across as naive might elicit more bidding since eBayers might think they had stumbled across a “great deal”. I was certainly watching all of those lots, but chose to pass when the bidding became fervent.
The E104-1 lot was clearly the best of the bunch. They each had the same back stamp (“Swift”) from a discovery from several years back (2007?). I think REA had auctioned a few of them - or at least a Plank.

Good points about Chatgtp or whatever he used. He could have just searched Cobb Piedmont on eBay and figured out what he had. I know nothing about coins or comic books, but I know not to list stuff before I know what it is. "Old crummy Superman comic book." etc. Good luck, all.

I'd be worried that the account hadn't had any transactions for over a year. Seems like the classic - take over of a dormant account. I'd be worried that it's all an illusion.

Yes, my concern was with the titles and descriptions. The pics were nicer than some power sellers on eBay. He knew the backs were important to scan and show.
My impression is that he is not from a foreign country, he's in a foreign country. I think ebay has guardrails for this kind of stuff now, so no one will be out 10 thousand dollars.

Nice...looks like there might be an extra Mack and Davis for a front page auction.

Congrats on the pickup, Leon - wonderful cards! I've only seen the version of the "Swift" stamp on the back, and not the "Swift's Variety Shop" - has that stamp version been seen before? (Apologies if that's a simple question - not an expert on the set.)

That's awesome, congrats. Glad I was wrong!
EDIT: Though maybe I'm not supposed to say I was wrong but, in keeping with current trends, come up with some crazy story about how they still don't actually exist
