Let's head back to the mound!

My main PC project is actually called "A Celebration of Topps - HOF Pitchers 1952 to present".

With all due respect to Seaver and Carlton, here are my top 5 pre-1980 postwar aces.

A 1972 Topps Cloth Sticker? Nice!

The alpha and omega of postwar can only be #42:

I'll go with the most dominant pitchers of the era; when these two were on they were unhittable (11 no-nos between them prove it):

Next, the best hitter of the era. Take away all of his HRs and Henry is still a 3000 hit guy.

Last, I will go with this guy. Phenomenal player, even better human being:

I think this might be my first, possibly second post on the Postwar side...I am primarily a Prewar collector. So this post will be a mashup of both sides of the collecting divide.

There are 9 Hall of Fame players that have regular issue cards during their playing career in sets from both Prewar (1941 and before), AND were trodding the basepaths in the Topps era (1951 and after):

Lou Boudreau
Joe DiMaggio
Bobby Doerr
Bob Feller
Johnny Mize
Pee Wee Reese
Phil Rizzuto
Enos Slaughter
Ted Williams

The fun thing is, the 1941 Double Play set is the only Prewar issue that has all nine of these players (the 1939-46 Exhibits include 5, while the 1941 Play Ball set includes 4).

Here are my top 5 Double Play cards depicting 6 of these Hall of Famers (The Mize/Slaughter card is twice the fun at half the price). My examples are all sliced in half, just like the makers expected their sticky fingered little collectors to accomplish.
