I think those are really cool and more than likely a kids creation to fill roster spots to complete team sets. All of the players were fairly short term jobbers that had short or very average careers. Finding a card for them would have been outside the possibility.
Very impressed you found a larger group of someone's collection from so long ago. A very lucky task for a likely smaller collection. Merito Acosta is a great story if you look into it, he came in as a Cuban player who spoke little English. He also had the hype that he had the skills of Cobb by local press, but never really made a dent. Oddly he was not the only Acosta on the team at the team, as they had Jose Acosta another Cuban pitcher on the roster, but I find that unlikely as he had a very short stint...however the playing time overlapped.

Just kids with access to a typewriter treating their cards in the traditional creative kid manner, and not viewing them as investments.
Here is a M116 card of Fred Beck. I think the defacement of his card has made Fred a little red in the face. Brian Last edited by brianp-beme; 08-01-2024 at 10:37 AM. |

Looks like they might have even sought out cards centered more toward the top so they could fit their captions too.
