Day 253 – 10 September 2024
Not sure the purpose of this sign. It is from 1971 reflecting back on Dave McNally’s Grand Slam Homerun in Game 3 of the 1970 WS. The sign would look a lot better without the bottom white section (Orioles vs. Oakland handwritten). At the top it says “Best in Baseball!” Below the picture of McNally touching Homeplate being congratulated by his excited and surprised teammates it says “Grand Slam Action!” with the bird and his crown. On the reverse side the Oakland Athletics laid out the locker room in hand written form of all their players and their assigned lockers. The sign is cardboard and measures 13 in X 17 in (approximately). Last edited by Chstrite; 09-11-2024 at 04:55 PM. |

Charlie-
Great Ad piece! Dave McNally remains to be the only pitcher to hit a Grand Slam in World Series history... One of the favorite pieces in my collection is the lineup card from that game that was taped to the Orioles dugout wall that afternoon (also was the game that Brooks Robinson made that iconic catch off the bat of Johnny Bench): ![]() ![]() RIP James Earl Jones....Back in the early 1990's Mr. Jones did some work promoting the C&P Yellow Pages & here is an ad slick of him and Cal Jr. that I was fortunate to have both sign (I like how Jones' signature is nearly identical to the facsimile version):

Bill, great line up card. I have a few with Brooks but nothing like a WS. Thanks for sharing.

Day 254 – 11 September 2024
Today’s sign is one of my favorites from Memorial Stadium back in 1983. The sign is bright Orange with White Letters signed by Brooks Robinson. The sign is celebrating Brooks Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the White Sox game that evening (August 5, 1983). The sign measures 19 in X 15 in (approximately). |

Also, just a side note, McNally hit the HR in ‘70 not in ‘71 nor in ‘24 . You’re just making sure we’re paying attention…

Mark, yep. Typos. I think October 2024 came from a future post. The sign is from 1971 celebrating his GS from the previous year WS (1970). Did not know about the group tickets and how the signs were given out and displayed. I have another one I may post. I corrected the post. Getting sloppy.

I really didn’t know about how the signs were used either. Mine was just a guess. Oh, and PLEASE post another example… |

Day 255 – 12 September 2024
Another sign from the 1980s at Memorial Stadium is advertising “Orioles Team Jersey Night.” The jersey’s are sponsored by Crown Gas. |

Love these type of small signs. Really nice that the attachment for the jersey is still on there.
