Jonathan,

Nice looking postcards. I have a quick question about the Jim Palmer. I think your Palmer might be from 1966, not 1965. The Orioles used the same photo both years, but there's a couple differences.

In 1965, the postcards were 3 1/4" x 5 1/2". The 1966 postcards are 1/4" shorter, 3 1/4" x 5 1/4". Also, the gap above Palmer's hat is a little larger on the 1965. Does your Palmer have a postmark on back?

Your Palmer looks like one of my 1966 Palmer postcards, but could be a new 1965 variation.

Here's my 1965 and two 1966 Jim Palmer postcards for comparison.

I noticed that the amount of sleeve piping (is that piping?) visible in the lower right corner is also slightly different between the two years.

Default 1967 Dexter Press Brooks Robinson

Day 319 – 15 November 2024
Today, I am showing you the 1967 Dexter Press Photos. On the left, you will see a PSA 8 Premium All Star version. The one on the right is part of the Orioles Set. I honestly do not know the difference between the two photos. The front and back are the same from what I can tell.

The backs have a different write up. The all star I think is much shorter write up. I you don’t see any difference it maybe mislabeled by PSA.

Default Brooks Robinson Baltimore Orioles Advocate Photo

Day 320 – 16 November 2024
I found this photo many years ago from the Orioles Advocates celebrating Brooks Robinson’s Hall of Fame induction. It was given out at the Orioles Advocates 23rd Anniversary Banquet on November 5, 1983. The photo shows Brooks in his famous pink sports jacket during his HoF induction ceremony.

Measured the Palmer 5 1/4 x 3 1/4 But the back is blank no postmark. The McNally is 5 1/2 but I was told it was a 1964. Also blank backed. I won them as part of a large group on Ebay maybe 6 weeks ago. That was one of 4 or 5 Groups of a large collection of Baltimore team issues. The other I will see if any of the other 1965 cards are from players that could only be 65..

PS Love the Johnny pro Brooks. It brings back memories of my first show in MD. I think Nick Schoff ran it. Met alot of collectors at that show.

Jonathan

Jonathan,

That makes sense. That would make the Palmer a 1966 issue. I only asked about the postmark, as many were mailed out to fans and a postmark on the back usually helps id the year. The McNally is from 1964. Both the 1964 and 1965 O's postcards are 5 1/2". The Orioles reduced the size to 5 1/4" in 1966. Most of the 1965 and 1966 O's postcards use the same photo.

Let me know if you have any for sale/trade. I'm missing a few from 1964.

Day 326 – 21 November 2024
As yesterday, today I am showing you another press photo from Game 1 of the 1966 World Series. Brooks Robinson and his teammate Frank Robison are standing back to back. The pose is celebrating the Game 1 back to back homers by the batterymates. This photo is dated 6 October 1966 prior to Game 2.
