Another reason fleabay is going to annoy people. I think it's a bad idea. For me, it's pretty straight forward, I generally use the same payment method and shipping address, but I can see how this is going to screw people up that like to change things up here and there.

This is no issue for me but of course I will still criticize eBay over it.

Its happened to me for awhile
Though no big deal as they have my CC on file
which I would use if they didn't autopay

On lots I sell, I have the option to request immediate payment, I decline it.
& I'm fine waiting a few minutes to a few hours to get regular payments

How will it work when people frequently lock their cards until they are ready to use them?

I've been charged instantly, it probably has been only on best offers.

This is especially problematic when you buy multiple items from a seller and want to request a combined shipping invoice. If the auctions don't end within an hour of each other, or if you aren't available to deal with the auction ending process immediately, you're screwed.

I have a seller from whom I have bought several hundred items from over the past years and who always combines shipping and states so in the listings. Will the seller have to refund the additional shipping costs?

LOL, me too. That darn eBay. I personally like to message the buyers and request they list their items in the exact way I want or I let them know I won't be bidding in their auctions. Then after I win if they don't add me to their blocked bidder list from my first uncalled for harassing message I send them a very detailed message on how I expect them to package and ship the item to me.

Default Auto Pay

I have had it happen plenty of times on wins and it never bothers me. My CC and shipping address don't change. Just makes it easier for me but I can see a few issues (that look like they can probably be avoided). I have no problem with auto pay....

Me too. I am a big believer in automating away cognitive effort. eBay asked me to set up the autopay option for my auction wins and I was happy to do so. I have a CC dedicated to my card activities and the shipping addy hasn't changed in years, so it makes it easier for me to snipe and pay without further involvement. As a seller I LOVE it. Chasing winners is a real PITA and there is usually at least one a month who doesn't pay. I had a pretty big auction item go unpaid recently. I had to run the damn auction again, and it closed for 10% less than the first auction. Cognitive effort. As for combined shipping, I don't require immediate payment on a BIN, I ask people to wait for an invoice. If someone happens to overpay for shipping, I will refund any overage. It is a bit of a hassle but it makes customers happy to get it back, even if they were OK with the purchases at full freight; I am not. You do get a real dumb one every so often. One guy bought about 20 cards from me, BINed and paid them all before I could send an invoice, got mad about the shipping, and refused my offer to refund 19 of the shipping costs, opting instead to cancel every purchase.

As a seller it's nice to have to option to make people pay right away on best offers. It's pretty common to receive an offer, accept it, and then take the time to message the "buyer" a few times and then a week later you relist it.

Accept it because it's not going away. That's the E-Bay way..

I use the same Ebay as my dad, and sometimes I get items sent to my mom's house or my brother. This new autopay took all of that away because it didn't give me an option of payment or address. It also gets charged to him as well. I have passed on numerous items since this started, choosing to buy them elsewhere if available or just not buy at all. So yes, there is a downside and it sucks.

Maybe if someone has over 2,000 transactions like we do with 100% positive ratings the entire time, you can trust us to pay. Just a thought

If you can’t pay for something in an hour don’t bid on it. Problem solved.

For what it's worth I won a handful auctions over the span of about 2.5 hours with Greg Morris this evening and was able to wait to combine them together.
