Kershaw? I mean it's unlikely with these guys now getting fewer starts but he did have some insane years.

Kershaw's highest WAR season was only 8.1 (2013). Only 236 innings - which actually now seems high for the present state of the game.

Flailing. Ron Bryant had that one massive year. Steve Stone. Orel Hersheiser. Saberhagen. Probably going to be someone at the turn of the century.

Good guesses but no. Two hints:

1) Definitely not "turn of the century" but pre-war

2) His team won the world series that season.
