Thanks Carlton! Roughly 13" x 21". I believe it's probably the same example I saw 13-15 years ago and hadn't seen another one pop up anywhere since! Ken Wel stuff is pretty tough and it's 1929 or earlier since they were still in Gloversville moving to Utica in 1930. Is there a better baseball glove manufacturing town name than Gloversville?

As for mat color….i have maybe 50 framed “gig posters” (rock bands)…I order the frames online and figure in a mat(s) when sizing. I then go to a local frame shop with the poster and try out their mats in front of my eyes. I’ve been burned buying the mats online. Sometimes a subtle color difference makes all the difference. Off the top of my head, I would think an orange mat. Maybe blue, too, if you double mat it.

What a beauty!
As for the mat, I would go with either the blue/grey as seen in his cap/uniform, or the forest green seen in the Ken-Wel Logo. Visit the frame shop in-person (as Carlton suggested) and see which color you can match-up the closest. Best of luck, and be sure to post the finished product!

1st choice - forest green seen in the Ken-Wel Logo
2nd - basic (black)would really pop because of so much color in piece. Also consider where is final home is and how that displays in the room Very nice piece! Last edited by nebboy; 12-20-2024 at 06:22 PM. |

Drove 90 miles out into farm country today to pick up this time capsule, circa 1948. Especially excited about the Jackie Robinson pin.

1878 London Tecumsehs/ Binghamton Crickets trophy baseball. Both teams were members of the International Association. Ross Barnes was player/ manager for the Tecumsehs and John Montgomery Ward was pitcher for the Crickets as an 18 year old. Thanks to a board member for making the ball available to me.

Now that is pretty cool. What was the backstory on driving 90 miles? Did the seller had it advertised and you made the drive or someone gave you a lead? I like various teams on the hat. |
