Not to mention, SoCal has even more things to worry about than usual these days. A few stolen baseball cards should rightly be at the bottom of a to-do list at the moment with everything that's been on their plate. It's great that this story had a happy ending--I'm just surprised that law enforcement was that proactive.

Yeah, I was wondering if Dave knew Melissa, or just learned her name in connection with some of the cards being sold to Burbank. These would certainly be crimes of a different nature.

I'm glad you got them back, OP. I'm curious how they were stolen and how they were found.

I also share a bit of surprise that law enforcement jumped in and solved this so quickly...in many parts of the country cops are under-resourced to where a small number of stolen baseball cards (from most people, anyway) is going to be a very low priority.

But most importantly, glad you got them back. Can't remember reading any of these theft threads whereby the owner got them back, frankly.

All but 2 of the cards stolen from Memory Lane Auctions were recovered.

I was surprised by that as well.
We had a $125k truck stolen from work early last year and it took 4 phone calls and 3 hours to even get an officer to come out and write a report. When the officer did arrive he seemed genuinely annoyed that he was even there. There was also no investigation and no follow-up from the responding officer or the department. When we tried to follow up with the department on two different occasions we were just told to file an insurance claim.

Not a cop, but if an assigned investigator gets an easy enough assignment it's not moving a mountain to feel it out.

I say this as someone who used to live in an "interesting" neighborhood and it was not uncommon at all to have an investigator show up at your house to ask about a lead or address of some name they have that might be in the neighborhood.
