Looks like it’s bleed-through from the front. That one curved red line corresponds with his shoulder outline it seems.

I can also see stacking the fresh sheets on each other, with front ink transferred from another Gehrig sitting under this one. Worth calling out, either way!

Now Cracker jacks are fairly flimsy, so I guess there's some kind of slight chance, but think of old books with illustrations. That's just paper. Ever see an illustration "bleed through" When it comes to Goudey it gets a little absurd, those things are thick and heavy, printer's ink is NEVER penetrating all the way through that card. Hell I bet you'd have to sit there with a Sharpie in one spot for a LONG time before it soaked through.

What a joke. The TPGs place such a huge emphasis on centering but rarely if ever punish the card for bad focus/registration.
To me, the latter is much more important... both are traits that are original to the card's original production, but the image itself should be considered more important than the centering. Just another of many reasons that grading is a scam.

The centering of a card is the one thing we can clearly determine without the "expert" opinions of third party grading companies. The fact that they place so much emphasis on that one attribute makes very little sense.

Wow..
I’d rather have that 4 or A all day over that 8. Appeal means a lot!
