Really sad to see this. Didn’t realize Jerry was so young either. He was a great guy, and I’ll miss the conversations I’ve had over the years with him, and his emails wishing me happy holidays. RIP my friend.

Pete, this made me smile because I was thinking the same thing today -- even if we hadn't emailed in a couple months, I could count on getting a happy Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, whatever. Short and sweet and to the point, but always appreciated and nice to hear from him.
Ryan, thanks for planting the trees on behalf of N54 -- that's a nice thought. |

I'm still a little in shock since hearing the news. Jerry was a great friend with extensive knowledge and a rational view of the hobby. With his vast knowledge, it wasn't hard to pick up info from him on the scarcer issues in the hobby. Rest easy my friend, I'll miss our talks.

Sad news. He was an expert, and I learned a lot from him on here. I bought some of his cards years ago and just assumed that he was much older than he was.

My good friend Jerry Tate passed away and it is so sad. Jerry (whose eBay and Net54 name was ‘Gabrinus.’ ) was living a solitary life the past few years and I worried about him. He still had a sharp mind to the end and although he had sold all his cards, he still loved the hobby. They did not do an autopsy so they do not know what caused his death or when it happened. Just so sad.
I remember in the 80’s when everyone else was collecting modern cards or cards from the 50’s and 60’s, Jerry was buying all 1910-1920 caramel cards and Kotton cards. He recognized their value long before the rest of us did. I miss him. Bob (Tbob) |
