really great cards and artifacts guys. great to compile an archive of sorts on the thread to celebrate cy in the early days of his career. there's so much to say about the impression he left upon the sport.

so many know him just from the name on the award but uncovering historically the nature of his character and just how massive his achievements really are puts him in perspective as a figure who played in what are essentially two fundamentally different eras of the sport and excelled beyond what we can conceive of in a modern context in both of them.

My favorite Cy Young stat is that he completed 749 of the 815 games he started, which works out to 91.9%.

its something that is near impossible to fathom in a modern context. i'm convinced its a big part of why there's a large gap of relating him over a century later to today's game and our conceptions and standards of baseball. can only imagine having the ability to watch today's game then be able to go back and watch him pitch a season. you'd have to completely rework your conception of what baseball is and what is possible within that framework.

part of what makes him and his place in history so utterly remarkable.
