Great thread!! I too prefer the Paige 53 Topps. Its one of my favorite cards ever, if not my favorite.

I would also mention the Monte Irvin Red Man Tobacco card. Very affordable and absolutely beautiful. The Minoso is superb as well. Larry Doby '51 Bowman perhaps the best of the set; one of the best of the 50s. Jackie's 54 topps is very affordable contextually, but his '53 to me is absolutely iconic!! You can also get a willie mays exhibit card for just a couple of bucks. Identify it well by using tools online; you can even mark one printed in his rookie year!

First card, Not hof'ers but a neat card nonetheless.

Second card (d305s) a card that is still attainable...

Default 1947 Cleveland Indians Picture Pack Larry Doby

In my opinion, one of the most underrated collectibles in the hobby - the 1947 Cleveland Indians Picture Pack Larry Doby. The set was originally available and complete at 25 pictures before Doby broke in July 5, 1947. The team added Doby to sets perhaps sometime in July - Aug timeframe. Singles can be found but rarely see the full set of 26 with Doby.

Still very affordable at hundreds, not thousands, of dollars.

Piper Davis was in Mother's Cookies '53 set with Oakland though not a "Negro League" team it was absolutely his playing days.

By the time Piper Davis joined the Oaks, Billy Martin was playing with the Yankees. Martin did, however, room with Artie Wilson.
