Hi Everyone
New member and first post.
I just recently got into vintage boxing cards and I am doing a ton of research trying to educate myself on the different sets/backs etc.
I've picked up a few cards, but a 1910 T218 Side View Jack Johnson PSA 5 was the first one I grabbed. I tried to attach it, but I can't figure out the compression haha.
Any advice you veteran collectors can provide would be greatly appreciated.
I am in the middle of Adam's book which has been a tremedous resource.

Bernard

Is there a fighter, era, category, set, etc., that interests you? That's where I started, with Jewish fighters.

Oh those are pretty awesome. The T218 is in fantastic condition. I'll have to look into that Ketchel/Thomas promo card.

Always love Ketchel's, he's often priced as a 'common'. Here's all 9 of his T218 family cards in much less nice condition

Hi Adam - Right now I am really interested in cigarette and candy cards from the turn of the century. I have some 1909 Ogden's commons, a few commons from other sets like Ardath - and an E79 Ketchel as well as a T220 Gans

In terms of fighters/specific sets - I think right now I am really just focused on cards that appeal to me - colour, design etc. I'm not a huge fan like everyone else of 48 Leaf, but eventually I'd like to grab some of the main boxers in that set. I really like 51 Ringside, but I'm starting with pre-war for now.

That said, I do find myself doing searches specifically for Stanley Ketchel as well as the same guys most of us do - Langford, Johnson, Jackson, Gans, Dempsey, Sullivan...I've just been priced out recently for a lot of them.
