Goldin Winnings/Losings

All of the Ruth and Wagner cards that we are talking about are way out of my price range so no hard feelings on my part that I wasn’t able to pick up any of them. I never had a chance at any. My frustration comes from the fact that, back in the day, only 10-15 years ago, many of us who were not the wealthiest and/or didn’t have the highest paying jobs, could save up and get a big card every once in a while such as a Collins McCarthy Ruth, Cracker Jack Shoeless Joe, Toleteros Gibson or W600 Wagner/Matty. With the insane spending that goes on in today’s hobby, I could save up for the rest of my life and never be able to afford any of the really big cards. That’s what really sticks in my craw.

I hear ya, Phil. I used to be able to buy big cards too. Now they are the price of small houses, at least. I have to stick to oddities and not Ruth or Jackson so much. It is what it is. I don't have a Ferrari either. I guess I could trade my home for a really nice card but I can't live in a card.

I was in on the 52 Doby until I wasnt .. which was partially due to the scratch/crack(?) in the back of the case that they didnt address well when asked .. it did quite well though ...

I managed to snag the '15 CJ Gandil in a nice PSA2, amazingly for under a grand.
Finding value these days seems impossible.

Thanks. Honestly, it's more about the 10x value it would have been today, which saddens me a little. A lot of us have that story though.
Cards are just cards. I still love to collect but other things were more important at the time (family).

Also bought the two beautiful 1953 and 1955 Red Man sets for about market price and the 1914 CJ Chance PSA 1 for $1,200, which I thought was a good deal given the current market for CJs.

What matters is if your happy with it, I'm looking for that Gehrig as well but I agree with your assessment, With those soft corners it doesn't look like a 6
