And some addictions of course are necessary in nature. The human race would die out pretty quickly if we men weren't addicted to sex. Be bad for the economy too if sex didn't sell. All those women preying on or at least getting a leg up on men's addction would need to look for other kinds of gainful work.

This is really more about the gambling side than the hoarding end of the ‘over-collecting’ spectrum. The people in the article are chasing a high just like heroin addicts or the rush from hitting a parlay or getting lucky at a slot machine. Their attachment is to the possible payoff from a great hit, not the physical card. My guess is that they only care about Mookie Betts or Charizard or whomever if they’re on a 1/10 reverse stock razzle-dazzle megafractor. These aren’t the Collyer Brothers we’re talking about.

Sign that you *might* be a gambling addict disguised as a card collector:
You open a lot of sealed product. When you find a "hit," your first instinct is to brag on social media, get it graded, and sell it.

I bet a lot of card addicts are foaming at the mouth at the prospects of a gazillion Pokemon cards at the National.
