Default eBay T3 Authentication Failure

Sold a T3 Speaker SGC 1.5 on eBay, and had to send to authentication. I've never had an issue with authentication as a buyer. I rarely sell. Here was my ebay description. I used the AI creator, but edited it to include the damage on the card.... "This T3 Turkey Red Tris Speaker #36 SGC 1.5. Please note the bottom left corner and missing paper near the middle of the card. This trading card is a must-have for any avid collector of Major League Baseball (MLB) memorabilia. Featuring the legendary Hall of Fame centerfielder for the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians, this graded card is a part of the beautiful and highly desired 1910-11 T3 Turkey Red Cabinet Cards set, which is manufactured by American Tobacco Company. The card is a part of the base set and has a checklist back parallel / variety. It is a sports trading card with no autograph, and has been graded by Sportscard Guaranty Corporation (SGC). This card is a great addition to any collection and is a true gem for baseball enthusiasts."

I packaged the T3 in a box. Put a bubble mailer around the SGC holder, then cardboard around the bubble mailer. Put that in a box with filling and shipped to authentication.

Got a message from the authenticator that it failed authentication because I didn't disclose a scratch on the holder. Here's the quote... "The encapsulation of your graded card is significantly scratched or damaged, and was not disclosed in your listing. Please relist your card with accurate details and high resolution photos."

Card came back from authentication in just a bubble mailer. Before opening it, I dreaded that it was going to be damaged worse than a scratch. Upon opening it, I couldn't find a scratch. However, it was noticeable that the case was cracked because the card had slipped and was hidden by the black border. I was able to separate the bottom left corner of the holder. For the life of me, I don't remember it being cracked before selling it. I wish they would give better descriptions like "Your box was damaged during shipping and effed up the holder." Or provide pictures. But why in the world would eBay send it back in just a bubble mailer? Idiotic. So now I'm not sure that the authenticator screwed up and damaged my card during inspection, or if my package was damaged during shipping.

Anyway, I can't relist it with a cracked case until after sending back to an authenticator to recase. I'm just disappointed.

I think one important takeaway from this is don’t use AI for your descriptions. It makes you sound like you don’t know anything about the card you’re selling.

I've found that ebay descriptions often cause more harm than good. I usually just copy and paste "please review scans for condition." I don't even put grades for ungraded cards in the title anymore.

They pulled the same negligent BS on me. My holder had a small subtle scratch on one outer edge and they called it evidence of tampering. I shipped in a box wrapped in cardboard and bubble wrap. Came back in a bubble mailer with no other protection. The guy still wanted it so I relisted it as memorabilia and sold it to him that way.

So I'm assuming if an item fails authentication Ebay does not refund your seller's fees?

And bummer what happened to the slab. You would think they would do a better job of packaging when shipping the item back you.

SGC’s T3 slabs are horrible. The seal is rarely good, and even when it is, it’s still easily crackable. I’ve open dozens with just my hands. So it’s certainly possible the seal broke in transit.

What about PSA T3 slabs? Are they better?
