This would mark the first time that the National could be a day trip for me. As a bonus, I am familiar with a lot of out of the way motels between points A and B if needed. Works for me. I may actually attend a National again after all. Let's all hope and pray that Pokemii and Pikachii have gone to visit the Beanie Babies by 2028.

I am very curious to witness what Detroit has done to clean things up in the years since I've visited. Revitalization would definitely be a tall order. I've long had a soft spot for Detroit in a way that I never could seem to muster for Cleveland or Baltimore. In a different part of my life, I was in that city and its suburbs five times a week. It's so hard to believe that Detroit was once incredibly beautiful, teeming with one architectural masterpiece after another. I'm happy that something positive has occurred for this city. It's about time!

I attended Wayne State downtown and worked at the Free Press in the late 80's and 90's. Honestly, it was a dump. Abandoned buildings, crime, you name it. There was Greektown, and that was about it. Today, it is absolutely stunning how different Detroit is. There's still some really really dangerous neighborhoods you wouldn't want to be at night, but name a big city that doesn't have that. The architecture alone is worth the trip. Every time I go downtown I can't believe the changes. My daughter is moving downtown and I'm not even scared for her. In the 90's I would have been freaked out. Thank god it's in the summer. It still isn't awesome here in January.
