As a preface, I know next to nothing about autographs.
Having said that, I'll share a memory. I was at the Hall of Fame roughly 15 years ago. Among their many items, they had on display a Babe Ruth autograph from (I believe) the day before he died. Despite his condition, the writing was clear and recognizable. So, the seller's mention of Babe having cancer seemed completely irrelevant. Long story short: that thing even looked fake to my eyes.
