Everybody is trying to be a flipper these days. I've made strong bids for items, only to get outbid by sellers like Showpiece Sports (autographed balls and caps) or Seaweed (pins), who immediately put them up on eBay with double or triple the prices. I saw a new guy the other day who is doing the same thing with signed mid-century snapshots. Thankfully, much of the overpriced stuff just sits there — I see items on eBay everyday that I got outbid on years ago, like Showpiece's $900 game used caps. I like Gary's perspective — it's a free market, and I'll spend my money elsewhere. I also agree an auction sets the price, not a greedy seller or an impatient buyer.
