Default 1965 Topps Joe Namath Tallboy Mini Printing Plate

I was told this didn't exist but I have the Original laser etched? aluminum printing plate for the Joe Namath rookie tallboy. BEAUTIFUL!! It does exist!!! Probable made for advertisement on a coke cup or something. I have no idea. It had to have been made with the regular tallboy. Its been in my safe for over 30 years. lol... scratches are all on case, plate is perfect. added pictures in reply thread. Any ideas on what this is worth? I assume its laser etched but I've never had it out of the case so I really don't know. Maybe someone else can tell me.

Did it come with any documentation from Topps?

If it was laser etched than it’s worth about $5 They didn’t use lasers in the 60’s to make printing plates. They used photo sensitive metals to transfer images from original artwork.

Without documentation or a metal test and a printing expert I don’t see any value. You may have been scammed or you may have something of value.

I assumed it had to be lasor etched. Ive never had it out of the case. Ive never touched it. been in the safe since 93. I dont know about where it was before I bought it. seems like this would be impossible to forge.

Back in 2011 Topps had an auction at the National where they sold a bunch of stuff from their vault and some of the things they sold were printing plates, however, this would not align with the fact that you said you bought this in 1993.

Where did you buy this and who from? $1000 in 1993 was like $15000 in “hobby money” today. I’m sure it came with some type of authentication.

You can buy something that looks like this on Etsy for $10.

So I’ll defer to experts.

ya its been in my safe for 30 years. Im pretty sure i got it at a sportscard shop off TV Highway in Beaverton when they were converting to a magic shop and the guy way making deals. I was there for the Magic Tournament when you actually played your opponent for a card out of their deck before it was considered gambling and stopped. 93-94 if Im not mistaken. MTG Unlimited just came out. Anyway I bought it and then sent it to Roseburg and gave it to my dad who put it in the safe. Thats its story with me.. Ya I know today people can do about anything and all should be considered a forgery until proved otherwise.. Agreed.. I just dont think this is.. Not sure how to find out either. I guess sometimes Im a little naive. I was thinking I would hear "Cool Man".. Not "Its Fake".

I would contact all of the auction houses and see if anyone’s interested in it for consignment. They can give you a better idea.

I'll say cool, man! Congrats on a great pickup and holding on to it for so long.

I don't have any info on whether it is legit or not but regardless it is a really nice piece and should be celebrated.

Totally agree. I haven't seen that one before. I think it's pretty cool.
