I'm located on the Peninsula and have done appraisals for fiduciaries, auctions, and estate sales companies. It's more or less a sideline, but I'd be happy to help you out if you are interested.
Just an FYI, there are no licensing requirements for appraising antiques, collectibles, etc in California so you could do it yourself. There are organizations that issue certifications, the most common for personal property is the ASA or American Society for Appraisers, you could search for someone with that certification...or you could simply do it yourself. I can apprise you of the steps involved.
Keep in mind that most personal property appraisers generally don't have detailed expertise in collectibles so they will spend an inordinate time on research and charge accordingly. Given what you probably know about the field, it would take much less time to perform the task.

I don't know what's in the collection at the moment but with the father in his mid 80s and a lifetime collector the scope is wide. I plan on taking a look at what he's got before recommending anything specific.
Does any have any recommendations or experience with appraisals completed for insurance purposes?
Thanks in advance!
