Won my first CGC graded card from Hake's a month or two ago. First impression was the slab looked clean. Then I scanned the card. Their mylar sleeves will not scan clear and I tried every setting possible. I know it minor thing, but it was a turnoff for me. I like nice clean scans of my collection.

Nice card. I can't stand those sleeves. I don't understand why they can't do something like this: (PSA themselves don't do it all the time either but they should)
See how nicely the card is set in the slab? No need for baggies or the floatiing plastic blobs that hold the card in the center. (Not my card)

If you send in cards you get scans as part of the service. I voted yes; I already use CGC.

I USUALLY buy cards...not slabs. I've used CGC for a handful of cards no other service would slab...and I appreciate that. I like their holder...don't love the label...but I trust them more than PSA.
Disclosure...I'm not a big customer of any opinion providers. |

I'm slabnostic [where's JollyElm, this is one for his dictionary
]I'll buy a card in any slab if the price is right. In fact, I've been looking for bargain BVG, CGC and related slabs. If I can get a great card at a massive discount because it doesn't come with a hideous red label, then that's a bonus. I made my first CGC submission at the National and I was very pleased with the results. The price for on-site grading was pretty good and the slabs look great. My expectation is that with more people using CGC that it will start to become more and more accepted and discounts for CGC will reduce. I hope that SGC will continue to thrive in the vintage market but if PSA drops that ball, then CGC seems to be the next best alternative.

I voted ‘maybe’. I’ve always preferred SGC because, in my opinion, vintage cards look amazing inside the black insert. I’ve recently bought two CGC cards, and I think their slabs are great…the flip looks good and the slab itself if super clear/transparent. Unfortunately, both of my cards have the annoying insert that is so distracting.
Maybe someone from CGC reads this thread. I would 100% submit cards through their service if they found a way to avoid the plastic insert. |
