Some 25 years ago, Terry was the go-to-guy on 19th century stuff. I always wondered how he kept such a full inventory when he had such a broad customer base. But he did!
He was such a pleasure to deal with. I remember once when we were both set up at a show in Schenectady, NY. Somehow we did a deal whereby I traded my nice set of N29's, including a beautiful Ewing, for his raw joe Jackson Boston Stores. No intermediaries, just 2 guys trading cards.
Rest easy, Terry, your place in the hobby hall of fame is secure.

As long as I can remember...Terry has been a fixture in the hobby always bringing the rarest and best 19th and early 20th c goodies! U guys were missed at the nat'l...and Terry will be sorely missed...but never forgotten!!! My condolences to you and your family. I just won this cool leather from u giuys!

Dear Terry - Joe T. here & I wanted to express my deepest condolences for your dad’s passing. I true hobby icon, I can still remember seeing a stack of W600 cabinets in their original glassine envelopes & T3 proofs in his Fort Washington PA. showcase. I can certainly attribute a significant portion of my cardboard passion to the many conversations I had with your father, for he always had the faith of a child when discussing the hobby. He truly transcended the art of collecting and his legacy will live on forever. I’m going to steal a quote from the great Johnny Bench who uttered these eloquent words in reference to the passing of the immortal Tom Seaver - for they surely justify why your dad was loved by so many: “For those who knew him, no words are necessary….for those who didn’t, no words could ever be adequate!”

Dear Terry


I write this message with a heavy heart. Your father first off was a great man honorable, warm, generous, and trustworthy. Not every day terms in the baseball card collecting hobby. You and your entire family are in my prayers and I’m sending my condolences. I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Dad - Terry Knouse. Terry was like a father figure to me as I gained interest in old baseball cards as a young boy. My father and I met Terry at the old Fort Washington show in the late 90s. My interest in the older (cards) created a bond with Terry that turned into a dear friendship over many years. At the height of my collecting in the early 2000s I was an honorary Tik n Tik dealer at the national in Cleveland. Your dad handled some of the finest pre-war and 19 century (cards) in existence, and always dealt and operated with a tremendous amount of class and dignity. Super knowledgeable and taught me most of what I know about 19th century cards. I wouldn’t have half of the knowledge or collection that I have today if it wasn’t for Terry Knouse. Shirley your mom was like a like a second mom to me and one of the finest people I have ever met. Praying for her strength.

Heaven gained a great soul today.

Wow, thank you for the kind words and memories. I shared with the family. We are so glad to have shared the hobby with you all. I have to say, dad enjoyed the people more than the monetary part of the hobby. He had so many stories to tell and memories to talk about all year long. Thankful you all were a part of the journey, each and everyone one of you. As for Leon, not so lucky, I cant say thank you enough for making the hobby experience so wonderful.

Best national ever. Got a large GQ Connor from Terry at this one. I believe they had the T206 Wagner meet up also. Must’ve been 25 Wagner’s in the room. Terry had so many N173’s at this show it was crazy.

Terry.....so sorry to hear about your dad. So many fond memories over the last probably 30+ years since I first met you all. I can't remember the exact national but it dates back to at least 1994 or 1995. The selection your dad had not only of OJ's but all kinds of 19th century rarities was just completely amazing. I remember fondly buying cards from your dad over so many years. He was always incredibly generous with his time and knowledge and your whole family always extremely friendly. Will be thinking and praying for your family over the tough times ahead.

TIKs traveling museum of incredible material is what I'd look forward to when I was able to attend shows where Terry set up.

When you see the word "hobby" and "legend" in the same sentence, TIK is one that can be included in that sentence for sure.

I never met your dad, but I bought some cool stuff from him through the years. I had once bought some Pinkerton cabinets from him, at the National he e-mailed me because he had come across some more and was wondering if I was interested. That struck me as very considerate, since I only knew him from a few purchases here and there, and yet he remembered what I liked and that it was even me that he had sold to. He was a good guy.

Returned from a trip to learn that the hobby had lost another mainstay. Terry, you were blessed to have such a kind, honest and generous father, and you have my sincere condolences. Rest assured, your dad will be long remembered in this hobby, not just for the conversations we all recall, but also because I suspect most veteran 19th century collectors have treasured cards in their collections they obtained from Terry. What set your father apart from other dealers even more than his encyclopedic knowledge was his willingness to price his inventory fairly rather than bedazzle us as a museum.

If someone has a copy of the first old cardboard handy they can elaborate but maybe mastro organized a “Wagner meetup”
For anyone with the card to bring them back on the show to meet at said booth. Not positive on the mastro portion but it’s a article in the first old cardboard..

Another Tik story- one of My favorite pickups from Terry was a near 1923 lectins set at the fort Washington expo show. Also got my bat horizontal Delahanty oj from Terr raw of course. We use to talk about braking the cards out of the graded coffins so they could breath lol. Terry 95 percent raw and beautiful..

Back on 11/1/2002 at the Boston Shriner's Show, Terry and I made one of my favorite trades of all time.

He had a George Gibson W600 that I had been looking for many years. I traded away the only two 19th Century Cards that I ever owned, a Tug Arundel and a Jumbo McGinnis N284 Buckner Gold Coin cards and some cash to acquire the W600 George Gibson.

The card still resides as one of my favorites in my collection!

In honor of PA native Terry Knouse- bumping the thread one more time-With the Philly show this weekend I felt it appropriate. I met Terry when I was 10 years old at the old fort Washington show which was a phenomenal show for vintage. Although Terry hasn’t done Philly show in many years- still missing his presence as I walked the floor. RIP.
