Our forum members look like they are having a great month picking wonderful cards up.
This was a National pick up that didn't make the thread show yet...

From the last Huggins & Scott auction. Glad to come away with one card I needed, some of the prices were pretty strong, I presume because of the front/back combinations. A PSA 8 #83 Paul Waner with a blue back went for $7800 while a PSA 8 with a green back went for $1050 in April.
I do collect front variations (e.g., Greenberg/Greenburg) but not the same front with different back color and year combinations. It's hard enough getting one of each card!

Sold for 550 in my collection auction (Oct 2015).
Bought back for 1166, almost exactly 10 yrs later from the original buyer..., not a bad deal. So, about 2x...which is less than I have bought back most of the other first collection cards for....I am happy. .

All,
What a great month! Tony, That CJ Cobb is so nice. Rob, Love your Cobby too. Such a nice example. Not as big as those, but I picked up this 48 Leaf Wagner today at the Raleigh card show.... https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1757812679 |

I’m not a graded card collector but always wanted this particular Mantle. To my untrained eye though, this card seems much better than its grade. Any idea what brought it down?

Nice card!! What's with the ink or print dot on right side back?? Perhaps that's the deduction in grade?

Is that a print dot or maybe a piece of the gasket overlapping the card, which sometimes happens with SGC?

Same color, but it does appear to be just a print dot.

I love the 56 card. Yours is very nice for the grade. Top to bottom centering and maybe some surface wear & touched corners brought it down a bit. Who knows. Yours has great eye appeal. Congrats on the purchase!! Last edited by brianclat11; 09-16-2025 at 03:12 PM. |

Andy,
That’s an awesome Rube notebook cover! I really love the look of those and that one of the most eye catching ones I’ve ever seen. I’m going to have to break down and get one at some point. Throat would look great on the shelf. Congrats, Bob

So, basically he gave you a loan. Let's see, compounding daily that's an implied interest rate of about 7.5%. Heck of a lot better than you're going to do at a pawn shop, and they're not going to keep your Kotton for ten years, either.

Congrats Dean on the nice 1915 Cracker Jack of Matty. I always found it interesting that the Cracker Jack folk made it appear on this card that Matty was about 20 years old (he would have been 34+ years old when this card was released), looking as young as does in the Carl Horner photo from the beginning of his career that was auctioned off last year. I wonder if they used a youthful photo of him to create the artwork, or perhaps they just wanted him to forever be the golden boy.

Yeah, Matty had definitely declined when this card was issued. Sure glad they used the photo they did. Made for an instant classic. |

This weeks haul for September……..and I finally got a beautiful T206 Mathewson Portrait…….all I need is the white cap one. For a Grade 1 , this card presents well, great color, my photo here does not do it justice. BIG shout out to Evan Kendall on the Matty. He made this happen for a price I could afford Thanks Evan!
Best of luck to all on the REA and Heritage auctions ending Sunday……..lots of great cards being offered.

That's a clean Mays! Proof that one doesn't need to pay the higher grade "premium" to get a beautiful card. I'll bet that this looks better than a lot in higher grades. Congrats!

New Pickup, Curious if anyone knows why these are considered 1933. Mickey Cochrane wasn't a Tiger until 1934.
