I just sent 40 to SGC. Received 10/31. Will see how it goes. I saw that SGC was down 69% YOY last month while PSA was up 124%. Collectors is trying to kill SGC IMO and are gutting their staff.

Possible conspiracy theory (but it may be reality??)...
![]() ![]() ![]() Hate to say it, but if they are working to eliminate the demand for SGC (with the intent of making the brand disappear) what's the most obvious thing they can do? How about giving out grades that are demonstrably lower than what the cards warrant? (That topic is talked about every single day.) It's a two-fold solution, as submitters will be so pissed at the bad grades that they will refuse to send any more cards to SGC. And what will their next move be? How about resubmitting the cards to PSA to get 'proper' grades...which will generate more revenue (off of the same cards they paid SGC to grade) for the PSA mother ship. Truth is stranger than fiction.

![]() Also.... they have removed SGC from all regional card shows. This was the method by which a huge chunk of SGC's customers would submit (to avoid potential damage/loss in shipping). Since they've enacted this wonderful collector-friendly policy, SGC's submissions have plummeted. They are squelching SGC on purpose, and will soon issue a statement something like.... "Due to dwindling customer demand, Collectors has made the decision to disband SGC, blah blah blah." They intentionally create the problems, and thereby remove the vintage card collector's only viable option. Not the kind of company I would ever support.

The last THREE subs I sent to SGC were all returned ungraded.
All cards that they've traditionally graded. Obviously, I'm not subjecting myself to any more of the same. I understand that PSA has shaken things up quite a bit over there since the takeover, but one of them needs to notify submitters about what - if anything - SGC is still grading. I won't hold my breath. Communication is way down the list of strengths for both parties.

My latest order hit the 5 week mark since received. Has been in post grading processing for over 1 week now. Highly expect a press release very soon that PSA has dissolved SGC for good. What a shame but the writing is on the wall. Although they say they are "Downsizing" the company, it appears that the size is "0".

Shocked that Nat left them with 30% of their people. Still not making sense how they cannot meet deadlines.

I submitted to SGC for the first time last month. 5 cards, 1961 & 1962 Topps. Received 10/10 by SGC, delivered back to me today, 11/14. Longer than the advertised turnaround but not by much. Good enough.

Shipped yesterday (11/14). When it arrives it will be 2 days short of 6 weeks for 37 regular sized cards.

I was going to create a video on this, but I figured I'd write this out. If you look at the last two months of submissions, they went from 60k in August to 50k in September. This seems to be all by design.
By reducing the staffing (as it was suggested that they're moving graders with SGC to PSA to learn their methods), less submissions can be graded. In doing so, anyone submitting to SGC will be met with a major logjam of delays. It doesn't appear that they're interested in solving that problem. I'm of the opinion that they're hoping that the logjam of delays deters collectors from submitting. I believe that they're hoping that the numbers will continue to decrease and eventually give them an excuse to cut off all submissions at a future date. The whole "boutique brand" will just be smoke and mirrors. I'm really hoping I'm wrong on this, but this is just what my gut tells me.

IMO, they are purposely slowing down subs in order to make SGC less appealing and drive more submissions to PSA. Instead of having two strong companies they have obviously made the decision to consolidate their business into one. I have a 34 card submission there since 10/28 and still in received status.

I just got an email this morning from SGC about them receiving my submission I sent last week. If they're working on Saturday, maybe they're putting in some OT to catch up.

I submit 30-60 pre war cards per month (for several years), they are at about a month and a half lead time since the middle of summer for my stuff. That brings it closer to what PSA lead times are so it makes timing between the companies appear more even to consumers. I do think they are trying to discourage submissions of modern cards to corral those over to PSA where they are equipped to handle that volume. SGC grading numbers are becoming similar to what they were before the 2020-24 boom which was their stated goal.
My hope is that they let SGC exist with an emphasis on vintage as that material requires a different discipline to handle than what 99%+ of their business currently is. The "machine" that grades modern probably doesn't like getting anything that isn't easily identifyable to the low knowledge employees it takes to do that work. Like a wrench in the system. If we're lucky, they will maintain SGC as an offshoot for the vintage catagory simply to streamline. If not, you are watching a company abandon the segment that created the value in the hobby to begin with. PSA actually does a bad job with pre war vintage IMO, and will do everything they can to squeeze collectors monetarily. That's actually all that the company exists to do, the "PSA sells for more" statement is their reason to basically charge a commission on the cards value with upcharges and tiered grading fees. I know SGC has had these in place as well but it was always less predatory. Hopefully having SGC as that "boutique" company presents value to them enough to keep it. It's sad, but I now view PSA as an enemy of my hobby! They are like a toll booth every 5 miles on a highway... Last edited by boneheadandrube; Today at 11:49 AM. Reason: grammer |

Another week gone by with no updates from SGC. Not getting any better……
Same situation as PSA right now, one is worse than the other. |
