Default Buddy Bell Pinbacks

I purchased these 1970s Cleveland Indians 2-1/4” Buddy Bell Pinbacks in a lot on eBay. I collect CLE Pinbacks and have never seen these before. Nice facsimile auto and a rare “double-auto” version as well 😀

I’m thinking it may have been a Buddy Bell fan club pin of sorts, but hoping that it’s more of a team issue with other players in this model pin. Any one seen any others like this?

Almost looks like they were done for a show and maybe used as a giveaway.. as the signatures are different and in different positions at the top... if it was a facsimile autograph they would be uniform and printed over and over again the same way.. Cool little pins...

Hmm...thanks for pointing that out! Didn't realize the sigs are different, across 3 separate examples. The autos are definitely on the underlying pics, and not on the glossy coating/finish, leading to my original facsimile assumption. Maybe they were actually signed and made into pins?

Yet another CLE collectibles mystery to sort out!

I think that’s exactly what happened, the photos were signed and then laminated onto a pin

Al's theory seems very plausible. The same kind of happened with these pins, although the sigs are the same, just placed differently.

edit: the one on the left can also be found with no signature and slightly different "cropping."

Rob looks like you might have to add this to the want pile.. I was looking at Pauls book example looks like his had a real signature on it BUT there is more type added to the bottom of the pin! SO there must be 2 examples! of the pin...

Ha that is my belief that a show promoter made up a bunch of pins and had him sign them and then did the covering thus protecting the signature because as we know if you sign on the coating has a tendency to smear or erase over time, this way its protected.. Also here is a buddy bell fan club pin.....
