but you would be doing so to a guy who sent PSA about 30 SGC cards to be "crossed over" into PSA slabs so that I could register my set in the PSA set registry.

Thus, I would be returning to from whence I came !!

When a card is "crossed over", will PSA re-grade the card using their grading guidelines or will it retain the original SGC grade? If PSA re-grades....I'd be very curious of the differences (if any). Please keep us posted.

I called SGC on this recently (I have a PRO card that needs legitimizing) - they said they'd do it but couldn't take responsibility if something bad happened during de-slabbing... Don't know PSA's policy.

For what it's worth, I had 2 full-size T204's rejected by PSA in Nov. as "evid. trim"; SGC had no problem grading them in Dec. I've since learned (thanks, MW) about PSA's new staffing problems. Go, SGC!

I did NOT have to take the cards out of their SGC slabs before sending them to PSA. They did NOT damage any of the cards during the removal process (and my guess is that they have some easy way of doing this since it is probably a common thing).

The cards were indeed RE-graded by PSA. They did not just assume that SGC was correct in their grading (which they could not have done anyway since some of the SGC grades were "half grades" like 5.5 or 8.8).

NONE of the grades from PSA were higher than any of the SGC grades.

75% of the grades from PSA were the same as the SGC equivalent.

25% of the cards were graded LOWER by PSA ... mainly because they were 19th Century cards with minor back damage from scrapbook removal. PSA KILLS cards for this, while SGC doesn't as bad.

MW: The card you show is nowhere near the paper loss that I was talking about. An 1895 black backed Mayo with white splotches where the black paper is missing is what I consider "paper loss".

The minor creases and wrinkles also seem to get "picked at" more by PSA.

I WAS NOT DEFENDING ONE GRADING SERVICE OVER THE OTHER ... JUST STATING MY EXPERIENCE.

If you want the truth, here is what I think happened:

I think someone at PSA saw all the SGC grades and said (consciously or subconsciously): "We need to make sure that our grading is NOT more gracious than the competitors' grading." Thus, I got shafted.

So why didn't I remove the cards from their SGC slabs before sending them in??? ... Because I was hoping that it would work the OTHER way, where someone at PSA would say: "This person is choosing to go with us instead of our competitor, so we should reward him with some liberal grading."

Naive? Stupid? Lazy? Curious? Probably all of the above!!

I think it was more of a conservative move on your end - just in case you damaged something during the removal process. And with the "coin" you spend, I can see why!
