Where do you get your vintage cards??

I continue to be baffled over where people get their cards? I see these great cards from a number of members. Leon always seems to have an abundance of rare cards. I just saw him post a scan of a T207 with a Red Cross back. I have no idea where to find one of those.

So i ask you this:

Where do you all get your cards?? i get mine about 97% on eBay and 2% here in the BST and about 1% from nationalsportscards.com.

What about everyone else? What am i missing? Are card shows a big one? Lets hear it

I don't go to many card shows but I do go to the national once a year and pick up lots of my cards there. I also use ebay alot, the b/s/t, and private deals w/other board members. Also on a personal note David, you will not be finding a Red Cross backed t207 for a long time.....less than 20 are known to exist. I think 12 exist ? Can anyone confirm this ?

The common perception is that 4 exist. I believe the number to be 5 .....regards (ps...my collection pales in comparison to some other board members....it just takes time and patience...and a few bucks)

Didn't you guys hear - leon has already agreed that when he decides to sell his t207 weaver red cross, i get to be first in line! Haha .. i wish (note: that was a joke). Let me suggest another outlet - The Hurricane Relief Auction coming soon to an ebay near you!

Don't believe everything you are told. I have seen 3 (and 1 was the 5th I am talking about) and have been told about the other 2. Email me privately and let me know who told you 12..... I have never heard that number before and know quite a few hobby vets whom I have asked ..

Leon, I am the person that mentioned the number 12. Thought there were two different finds, one of 5 cards and another of 7 cards.

I get all of mine from one or more of the following places:

1. In the attics of new houses that I move into;
2. Stuffed behind radiators;
3. Inside old shoeboxes that I find laying around;
4. My grandparents;
5. Hidden in secret hideaway spots under floors and behind walls (located in the same houses that I move into); and
6. Dealers - these cards were all purchased a long time ago and the dealers all informed me that the cards were real - but, since I dont know anything about them myself, I sell them on ebay as reprints per ebay policy.

There wasn't a find of 7. You might be thinking of Just So's as there was a find of 7 of those, I believe. There were 6 in a Sloate and Smolin auction several years ago and there was 1 that the consignor did not give them...which would make a find of 7, of a very rare series. All of my hobby buddies say there are 4-5 T207 Red Cross's.......regards

• ebay - (seems like a pretty large percentage)
  
• Auction Houses, large and small - (fair amount)
  
• B/S/T - (finding it to be a pretty good source)
  
• People I've met or know - (I still do this but most people don't want to cut loose of what they have because it's pretty hard to replenish stock)
  
• Shows (rarely - now if I lived on around the Pennsylvania area...)
  
• Shops (once in a blue moon - so many shops carry new stuff, they consider old stuff to be from the '50s)
  

I wish there was an up to date listing of stores, in our N54 arsenal of information, that carried VINTAGE pre-war (and I don't mean Viet Nam) material. I know these stores exist. It would be a great source of information for people that travel or people that go on vacations with the possibility of making a side trip to a card shop.

Wouldn't it be nice to plan one quality show where all the vintage collectors( and only vintage) could come and trade ,buy and sell their vintage cards . I find this the most frustrating part of the hobby --while I am a patient man I still would like to see a card or two I need come up for sale during the year and as my collection has not been built to trade I find that avenue not possible although I fully understand and appreciate the collectors who would prefer to trade.

Ed Keetz in upstate New York used to run a "vintage only" show, where no modern stuff is allowed. I'm not sure if he still runs that show.
