	i am no expert on this but my guess is when the web was introduced on bb gloves in 1920's this development led to bigger gloves that aided fielding. bigger mitts = harder to fold and keep in back pocket. in 1954 baseball instituted a rule where you could no longer leave gloves on the field.  |
