Forget about numbers. Comparing baseball statistics over different eras is meaningless. (Even more so in football, by the way). Longer seasons, watered-down lineups, different training, better equipment, dead-ball/live ball, and, of course, those "performance-enhancing drugs". Numbers aside - Ruth, Aaron, Maddox, Spahn, J. Robinson, DiMaggio - lots of great players over the years. You can keep McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds. |
