Regarding the George C. Miller - Which one of the two variations is rarer ?

Regarding the W574 - I have a Graded PSA showing the year 1932.

I have a Graded SGC showing a year of 1933.

Who's correct?



PS - ( A bit OT) In a private E mail the other day, someone asked what Ozzyzoe means.
Ozzy was my dog, who has since passed away, and Zoe is my cat. Who is very much alive.
I guess that means I am an animal lover.

a PSA bashing thread I think that the 1932 on the PSA card is a typo and 1933 is the correct year. While there are variations within the set they are all attributed to 1933.

I was just looking for the correct year. The bible is not always correct either. I want to get the incorrect one corrected. I have been through this with all three of them. PSA is not the only one who does this.

It appears as if something was bleached on the back, perhaps some writing? Coupled with the fact that there is paper loss on the front, and there you have it, a PSA 5!

Of the 32 cards in my set, 31 are Type 1 & one is Type 2. I began this set not even knowing there were two different types and once I found out about this factor, it did not play into which cards I bought or didn't buy. In other words, the 31-1 disparity was random chance.

Dan Mckee knows a lot more about this topic than I do.

Of the 60 GCMs currently being offered in the Dollof catalog (Nov. 2006), 42 of the 60 are Type 1.

I think that all players are available in both types but I'm not sure about Andrews. My Andrews is Type 1.

Based on the difficulty of even finding them, type 1 and type 2, isn't a factor in which one to choose. You must grab them when you get the rare opportunity. I was just curious. I have a PSA 5, the incorrect version. Very nice card. I like this set even more than the Diamond Stars, which have similar characteristics. Though the Diamonds are one of my favorites, they are very common and easy to locate. I like the art deco look. Actually I like art deco anything.

Edited to add note to James Feagin: I have some grade 2 and 3's in my 206's. I am going to bleach them, and write on them, and then try and bleach it out, so that I can get the grades up to a 5. Thanks for the tip Jim.....

In reference to your question about Dolloff, I believe that Bruce was referring only to the Nov 2006 Dolloff catalog and not a Dolloff auction. Dolloff, however, has auctioned/sold a lot of cards on eBay in the last six months. They had to reduce a lot of their prices before their cards would sell.

Thanks Brad. The 574's aren't that rare, you'd think that they could get their act together on this issue. But I will get the incorrect one relabeled. I am not aware of any other issues where there seems to be this confusion. Although there has been two or three times when I have sent something to get entombed, the grading service had to be told what year it was, and what it was to be called. I have had to send things back and get them corrected.`If one were dishonest, that could present some problems I suppose. I know it's naive, but I'm always hoping the grading services know what they are doing. Turns out they don't.

Right, Brad & Mike. I was referring only to the Dolloff catalog. Their phone number is 603-433-3957. They are open M, T, Th & Fr only, 11-5pm, east coast time. The person you will talk to on the phone is an order taker only, NOT a card expert.

A lot of folks say that the Dolloff prices are too high. A GCM Bill Dickey graded PSA 4 sold on ebay for $2,030.last August. Dolloff has an ungraded Dickey in vg as we speak for $1250. They also have an Al Simmons, another HOFer, graded vg/ex for $1650. So the prices, while not cheap, are not really out of line.

I have found their grading to be accurate. They also offer a return privilege.

When you consider how scare these cards are, for Dollof to have 60 in inventory is rather amazing. Jim Manos turned me on to Dolloff a while ago and I was able to acquire the last card I needed for my GCM set.
