Although the Dodgers played their first home game in Los Angeles on April 18, 1958 it wasn't until July 12, 1958 that I got to see my first major league baseball game. I was 12 years old and my dad took me to see Los Angeles play Cincinnati at the L.A. Municipal Colesium. The Dodgers won eventhough Walt Dropo hit a home run for the Reds. Seeing Junior Gilliam, Pee Wee Reese, Carl Furillo and most of all Duke Snider and Gil Hodges was unbelievable. Prior to the Dodgers coming west I was a huge fan of the Hollywood Stars and my only disappointment of the day was seeing Steve Bilko back in LA --he had been a nemisis to the Stars when he played for the Los Angeles Angels in the PCL and I remember I was disappointed seeing him playing for the Dodgers.
