I was waiting for this to end to post this, but there were 5 autographed T206's that went yesterday, for pretty low prices, but this was the best...

came with a letter of provenance with fred snodgrass mentioning the "glory of their times" set - or maybe it's just a ploy to get us to buy glory of their times???

still VERY cool! I know people have a few Marquard autographs on T206, how many T206's are known with autographs (other than these 5 from ebay?)

I came away with Marquard and Chief Meyers. I'm sure is heartbroken he lost the Meyers, just as I am to have lost the Snodgrass. To answer your question, I have five now....

Two Marquards, Wheat, Meyers, Rucker. I also know of copies from Cobb, Cicotte, Chance, Young, Doyle, Livingston, D. Jones and pretty much anyone who died in the 70's.

I did win 3 of them last night, including the Sno. James and I are going to submit our autographed T206 cards to JSA/SGC for authentication and grading and then we'll put together a nice little article on autographed T206 cards for someone like Old Cardboard or SGC Collector. Between the two of us, I believe we've cornered the limited market in these so far, though neither of us have a Cobb or Chance, both of which I've also seen.

My favorite part about the Snodgrass (which I sniped for way way way more than it went for -- I was not going to lose that one) is the provenance that comes with it, including a sound bite about the Glory of Their Times, which I read and I often listen to on my iPod (they're available on CD, dontcha know). To me, collecting T206 cards, and then reading/hearing GoTT, then getting a signed T206 card of a member of GoTT, then having that member talk about his inclusion in that book, brings it all full circle -- and brings me back in time like a time machine.

I am disappointed about the Meyers loss, but was determined not to lose Snodgrass at any cost, so I had to set my limit a little lower on the remainder of them. I also figured there was someone bidding early on Meyers -- a Meyers collector, in fact -- that looked to be determined to win that one at any cost. Still came away with Jones, Doyle and Sno.

Which brings my total up to eight:

Snodgrass (x2) - one of which will be James' pretty soon I'm sure!

Hi Guys,

I have collected pre ww2 signed cards for over 20 years and its way tough to find signed t206's. I was suprised how high those 5 went for
I have had and sold a genuine devlin t206 and saw a signed bresnahan t206 a few months ago so add them to your list.
I have a mcginnity but I am not sure of its authenticity. I got it with a Joe Tinker at a show about 15 years ago. I got a quick opinion form SGC saying the tinker wasnt authentic. However, I got the Devlin from the same guy and it WAS AUTHENTIC. I should also point out that SGC sooooooooooooooooo didnt look like they knew what they were doing. When I questioned why he thought the tinker was fake, he seemed to talk around me. I posted it on here awhile back and one guy thought it showed signs of feathering. However, I am not convinced that feathering automatically means its fake. Anyways, here is a scan:


I have it matted in a display and it took some doing getting it out
Would love to see a scan of the rucker if possible

Joe McGinnity died in 1929 and that signature looks like its one of those thicker markers... I don't think they had those in his time.

The ebay links aren't working, can someone post pics ? and maybe how much they sold for ? It would be neat to own a signed card from a t206 player !

I'm pretty sure that McGinnity isn't legit. However, on a lighter note; does anyone remember the "signed" Mathewson and Chesbro on ebay last year? Those were a hoot.

Congrats to the winners of the autographed T206s. I bid early on the Chief Meyers, but I was reluctant to put in a real strong since I had some reservations of whether the signature was authentic. I own an autographed "The Glory of His Times" that Chief Meyers had personalized. I purchased it from a book dealer in Chief Meyers' home town of Riverside, CA. (Chief Meyers' obituary was also folded up in the book as well.)

The autographed T206 may be fine, however, the signature had enough differences to make me wonder. It might be that like most people, their signatures change with time. It might be the difficulty of signing a narrow T206.

In case it matters - I know of a Cicotte t-206. It is in a private collection but I have held it. It has been deemed authentic. I know you already have it listed but I'm 100% sure this isn't the Cicotte you are referring to as the man who owns it is not a board member and has had it for years and just recently had it authenticated.

Its hard to tell because the art devlin was in the same type of ink and that was authenticated by PSA a few years back. It was really starnge cause PSA charges a REDICLUOUS amount to authenticate tinker and mcginnity but of course they had nothing on Devlin. So I called them up and asked and they said $20 to authenticate him! And they did! My first thought was " who is the art devlin autograph expert"? At any rate, there was no question regarding the ink. I compared this to other mcginnity autographs and it look spot on though condensed to fit on a card). At any rate I may break down and send it to PSA though if I get back a fake a wasted $150 I may soil myself.

Man that'd be nice if you could send in tough auto's to authenticate for 20 bucks, but thats unrealistic. Does anyone know who's the top autograph guy at PSA/DNA like Spence is with SGC/JSA partnership?

Hang onto your money on the McGinnity, its not real. McGinnity had a choppy looking up and down stroke style on his penmanship which was typical of the Spencerian handwriting style used up until the early 20th century (people trained in the mid-late 19th century). The signature you have looks similar is some ways to a legit McGinnity but the person who wrote it has an more contemporary handwriting style which is characterized by smaller capital letters and a more loopy and flowing look. There are other differences as well but you can tell immediately by the horizontal flow as opposed to the vertical flow of the signature.
