The reason the average life expectancy was so low then, was because of all the infant deaths from disease, in those pre-penicillin/antibiotic days. When those deaths were averaged in, the average life expectancy naturally dropped. So it wasn't that adults necessarily died younger then, it was factoring in the infant mortality rate that made the average life expectancy figure low. |
