Yes, they are refered to as wrong backs and while they are not common for any one card, did happen more frequently when less sophisticated printing processes were used for making cards. Generally, an entire sheet or more were "wrong backs" before being detected by the quality assurance process.

I think they are an acquired taste. I have a '60 Willie Mays with a Dave Ricketts back. It's just a failure of the process.
