OT: Scanner recommendations

I have a HP Scanjet G3110 that costs $99 on HP website w/CCD technology

Nice. Is it very portable/storable? My issue is that I don't have a permanent home for a scanner, so I plan to store it in the closet and use as-needed. As such, the reason the LiDE one caught my eye is because it uses the USB connection for power, but these CCD ones seem to require a separate power cord.

I just purchased the Canon 8800F. My scans just don't look the same as those posted. What settings are you using ? Output resolution ? Descreen? etc. Need help to make the images clearer. Thanks Mike

I have Cannon 8800 and use the default settings. Its 300 DPI but beyond that I have no idea what settings can be adjusted but this is what comes out.
