Brad, you make a great point, one that's probably worthy of being a post on the main board.
When I've done a few auctions here and put a 10 p.m. end time, I was thinking that a bid with a time stamp of 10:00 would be good, but it really should not be. I agree that sellers -- myself included -- should be clearer about ending times. |

Am I missing something?....if it ends at 10pm EST why would we need to debate this? At 10pm.....before the clock hits 10:01 the auction is live. At 10:01 it is closed...as it ended at 10pm.....or you could say it ends at 9:59 so any bid with "10:xx" in it is over the limit. I think I am missing the something though....we can debate it ..... rarely a harm in doing that...
edited to add that since we don't have a second counter it really has to be in whole minutes... Last edited by Leon; 06-23-2009 at 08:01 AM. |

Leon,
The point that Brad made -- as I read it -- is that if an auction is listed as ending at 10 p.m., the latest a bid could be placed is 9:59:59 (or a 9:59 time stamp on the board). Because it ends at 10, I think the question is whether a bid placed with a time stamp of 10:00 would be valid. Think of it in eBay terms: If an auction listing has an end time of 9:15:00, you need to place your bid before the clock reaches 9:15:00. A bid placed at 9:15:01 would not be accepted, because the auction ends at 9:15. And before someone complains that this appears to be an exercise in hair-splitting, as Brad indicated, the possiblity exists of a problem arising by more than one bid being placed at the end of an auction of a highly desirable card. |

I don't think it's hair splitting at all...especially since we have already seen one of these auctions be bid on at the very last minute and won.....I think this might be a better topic for the main board. There still won't be a "rule" I don't think, but this is info everyone should really be aware of. To your exact reasoning though....to me, and I am not always in the majority, if it ends at 10....and we don't have a second clock, then the whole minute of 10:00 is still open....then at 10:01 it is closed....but that is just me....I say you might start a thread on the new board about it....I start too many
....or we can debate it here...edited to add that after going back and re-reading your last post I think you have a good point...as at 10 I guess it should be closed? Last edited by Leon; 06-23-2009 at 09:34 AM. |
