Default Anson Ewing

Dave, Great choice for your thumbnail photo..of the Anson Ewing poster. A buddy had one and sold it to Halper. I consider it one of the greatest baseball antiques of all time...I wonder how many are extant. -Carlton

Default Last call please

I am giving the caterer the number of guests today. The firm number for the whole night is 103 so far...there are about 10 more that will be coming by later for drinks and a few more maybes....I expect there will be about 110 of us sipping on cocktails and cutting up..I think it will be a lot of fun....We have 3 speakers lined up and we might have 1-2 more. ..Get your names on the RSVP quickly if you haven't yet..... btw, my cell number is 214-282-4943 so if anyone gets to the Convention and spaces out the "what, where and when", you can call me............see ya'll soon..

Leon, Four more please. Just spoke with Chris Galbreath to let him know you need a count today. Chris feels four would be a safe estimate from their booth. Chris Galbreath, Herbert Thomas the third, Bobby Long, and Mike Sanders. Thanks again -Carlton

No problem....But please ask them to show up though since we will be having that many more head count.....We have had about 6-8 others today too, so I think we might even surpass last year's 135 in total when it's all said and done....which, for this economy, is saying something....It's always good to have more memorabilia guys. regards

With all of the help you did in getting the old board ported over to this one, even if you wouldn't have rsvp'd at all, you still could have come to the Dinner...See ya there...take care.....

I haven't turned in the count yet, Joey, so you and a guest are in.....however, everyone at the dinner need to be wearing a nametag, including me, that will be given once there....I want everyone to know that going into it....If you don't want to be known this isn't the place to come to...regards

Here's a suggestion at the dinner. Before or after the speakers (before everyone starts drinking ), let everyone stand up & give their name (or Net54 name) & what they primarily collect. I think it would give a chance to hear what everyone collects and newbies/lurkers to get to see guys who post on the forum.

Leon

Rhett and I will be bringing a few friends so make our reservation of (2) a reservation of (5) but I think (2) will probably want drink tickets (not Rhett and I so you can still give our drink tickets away still). A couple of other forum members will be hitting the dinner with us and I am making reservations for them as well.

Thanks in advance for everything.

I think that this should only apply to anyone requesting additional drink tickets. In all seriousness, if you do not use your name as a login on the site we should all put our login on our nametag as well.

Looking forward to it!

Thanks Leon.

Default a few thoughts

First of all I doubt we will have enough time to go around the whole room and listen to what folks collect. When it was only 40-60 folks that was fine....I rsvp'd this morning for 120 for the dinner and another 15 coming later. Nice thought but I don't think this would be a wise move.

As for nametags.....Everyone will be required to wear one, with a first and last name. Actually you only need to wear one if you want to attend the event. If you don't want to wear one I think you could probably still sit in the hall but you won't be at our Dinner.....hey, it's America and no one is forcing anyone to do anything. As for having login ID's on the nametags too, I think it might be difficult to enforce......As a courtesy I think those folks that are smart should put their Net54baseball.com user ID's on the tags. It won't be mandatory though as it's already hard enough to get folks to wear them in the first place. Been there, done that. AND if you want to be a wise guy and put someone elses name on your tag just do it early...because if you do it later (and I am more intoxicated), and I see it, I will end up making an arse out of myself again . Any last minute additions need to RSVP right away.

As of this moment there are 3 confirmed speakers and myself. We might add 1-2 more. The Dinner starts at 6pm with horse duvers (sic) and an open bar. Please try to get there as close to 6 as possible. At about 7:15 we will start with speakers. At about 8pm-8:15pm the fajita bars will be stocked. I have requested DINNER sized plates and re-emphasized that point. No more of the tea cup saucers with food spilling everywhere. *I would like the speakers to be finished speaking before everyone gets up to get their dinner, otherwise it will be inconsiderate and a fustercluck..........there will be all of the fixin's with the fajitas including beans and rice......I hope this clears up most questions.....Any questions or concerns remaining may be posted here or email me....thanks again.

I figured that it might be too many people for that idea of everyone speaking...Is it same banquet room in the Sheraton as last Cleveland dinner (2007) ?...Is there free parking at the Sheraton for those driving ?

It is in the ORION room (same as before), at the Sheraton, and very easy to find. There will be 14 round tables that will seat 10 ea. The speakers and I will be at the front table and everyone can just spread out and sit where you want to, other than that. There will be complimentary parking so if you drive there, and it looks like you have to pay, come see me and I will get it worked out where it will be free for you (a stamp or something, I guess)...regards

I hope Josh Evans of Lelands will speak again this year, but instead of speaking, he just let us ask him questions. That went really well last year. I hope to have some really good questions to ask.

Can' make this year, but Baltimore is already in my sights. I hope you all have a great time and enjoy the company of people who truly get what this is all about. With all the negativity and greed we see in this hobby on a daily basis, take the time and try to enjoy what should be the true meaning, a get together of hobby we all love!! I have learned so much on this board as a novice collector. I don't think I would have made it without all the information it provides (even if everyone doesn't agree all the time.) Hope to meet you all next year. ENJOY!!!

Tim

You mean there are dealers in Jacksonville?!

They haven't been able to get a good card show here since about 2003. And even then, there was more NASCAR/NFL stuff than baseball and vintage is considered 1981.

No, I'm simply a collector who's attending the show and visiting with buddies. If there were a seller from Jacksonville, I'd guess it would be this guy named Dan (I have run into him on the show floor a few times in other years).

Hey Alan, let's try to have a chat in Cleveland. My wife and daughter are Jewish and maybe the little girl will like to hear how there really are great Jewish baseball players from someone other than her old man. I shouldn't be too hard to spot...a guy covering up a balding head with an OBC cap.

We're not actually from Jax, we've just lived there for a while.

The wife and I are both native New Yorkers. Just like half the people it seems living in Florida.
