True "Cagers" back in the day when they actually played the game inside a fenced-in court with no out-of-bounds:

YazFan —
Great card of a great fighter — but he wasn't from Portland. "Mysterious" Billy Smith, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this past June, was a Canadian from Little River, Nova Scotia, and won the first officially recognized world welterweight championship on April 17, 1893. Towards the end of his career he moved to the West Coast, opening a hotel and Turkish bath in Yakima, Washington, and then a saloon in Portland, where he died on Oct. 15, 1937. |

About 98% of what I collect is baseball but of the remaining these three items would be my favorites.
"To a good fighter from a lucky one." 8x10 photo ![]() Duke Kahanamoku postcard, more often seen as b&w. Don't worry, Anthony; it's in the Will. ![]() Picked this up for a loonie in a Gastown junque shop back in the '70's. It is coveted by a certain Saskatoonian (Saskatoonite?, Saskatoonarooni?) who frequents this board. Don't worry, brah; it's in the Will (I'll throw in the license plate, too).

Anyone know of anything special in the Nov. 24, 1928 game between Fordham and Georgetown at the Polo Grounds?

As I live in Vancouver, no need to wear the sweater as we wear shorts and T-shirts in the winter, and leave the snow and cold to the rest of Canada ![]() The Sheiks' items particularly appeal to me, as I'm originally from Saskatoon Max Last edited by baseballart; 09-03-2009 at 03:17 PM. |
