Default Wanted: Munsell, EE "Hicks", Zeenuts

My great grandfather is Emmett Eugene "Hicks" Munsell, and since he only played in the Big Leagues for 1 day, I assumed he never was on a card. I've been doing some research and found him on two checklists: 1913 & 1916 Zeenuts. If anyone has his card and would like to sell, please let me know... I'm not interested in the condition (just as long as it's legible). I just want one to pass down to my son. Thanks for your time, Mike

Default Munsell

MD: Have a look with the search function for "Munsell" (use the "post" tab instead of "thread") and you will get a dozen or so hits; at least one offered up a Munsell Zeenut earlier this year. Who knows, maybe it's still available? There is also a T210 Old Mill of Munsell, same guy? don't know. One sold on eBay just a couple of months ago (link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=220458351416). Can't be sure but the buyer might be a regular Net54 poster and good old boy.

Default Thanks for the Info!!

Thank you so much for the info and example.... I did not know that this card existed! We've been looking for an example of any card with him on it but was unsuccessful. My son will be thrilled to see it when he gets home from school. Thanks a million for your time and help. May God Bless, -Mike

Emmett Eugene Munsell
Throws Right
Born: March 1, 1889 in Eminence, MO USA
Died: December 1974 in Longview, TX USA
Hick Munsell was a right-hander who played six years in the Texas League, twice becoming a twenty-game winner.
Munsell had one of the biggest mound turnarounds in minor league history. After losing 27 games in 1914, splitting time with Austin and San Antonio, he rebounded by winning 25 with San Antonio in 1915.
Munsell was invited to spring training with the 1912 New York Giants but had a disagreement with John McGraw about throwing curve ball after curve ball in an intrasquad game; the argument resulted in a fist fight on the mound and Munsell's release that same day.

I couldn't find any stats in the Baseball Encyclopedia for an ML appearance by Munsell so maybe his one day in the majors was the time he duked it out with McGraw. He had a solid minor league record, had his picture on a few baseball cards, and your son will be able to say that he shook the hand that shook the hand that punched John McGraw. All very cool. Good luck in securing a card. With a bit of persistence it seems quite doable.

Mike, it isn't for sale (unless I find a duplicate) but here is what the 1916 Zeenut of Emmett Munsell looks like (if you haven't already seen one).

Default Thanks Guys

- Bob, I received your email this morning and have responded back... Thanks a milion for the opportunity!

- Rhett, this is the first picture that I've seen of him on a Zeenuts card... thank you for posting! I can't believe that he actually made it on any card considering he only had a 1 day career in the Majors. I was shocked to discover that there was a company who actually printed minor league players back then.

I would like to express my appreciation to everyone who has chipped in and posted. You guys have helped me out tremendously on my quest to gain knowledge and obtain one of his cards. Bob, I would like to thank you again for the opportunity to purchase the T210 from you.... you're truly a top-notch guy!

Thanks again guys for everything, - Mike Schulze
