Yes, they are overpaid.
It isn't all about their production at the plate. When Mr. Aaron was DHing, a factor to consider was his value in ticket sales. Even for the Yankees, it is about the money. This reminds me of the talk toward the end of a race when I'm watching NASCAR, and they talk about getting no tires, two, or four. When the race is over, they pay off by finishing order, not thickness of the tires. In baseball, they, the owners, don't add up batting averages and home runs, they count the money. |
