Hey Jimmy,
Being that some think that the century and decade began in the year 2000 (although many disagree), why not expand the thread to memorabilia pickup of the decade as well? I wonder for how many it would be the same item?

For me the pickup of the year is easy.
It is this because of the item and the way it was obtained.
It came via Hawaii. Thanks very much David.

The decade would be tied between the Dean and the Waner below.
Both difficult cards.

Happy holidays to all.
Mark

PS: My name isn't Jimmy, but perhaps that is the single finest Gehrig sig I have seen.

Default Wow

Jimmy,
That pic of him with his hands to his eyes, has to be one of the best Gehrig items I have ever seen. Poignant and historically significant.
Thanks for showing it.
Mark

Both of my oversized pennants would be at the top of my (I'm running out of the burning house...what do I grab list) but for variety I'll include my favorite trophy.

Wow. That Joe Jackson BG is amazing! Such a great story. I only picked up one piece of memorabilia this year and it was one of the same Fatima tins as posted above. My grandma let me look through her antiques and when I found the Fatima tin I was amazed. I guess that I kind of made a hobby find, but I wish that I would of found a Boston Garter Jackson instead. Yet again, amazing pickup!

I don't know if this my best, but it's pretty darn close. I collect team letterhead sample. This one (partial scan) is from the 1905 Boston National League team - the Beaneaters.

[This post was made partially in response to Leon's call for takers to give a little more. I'm definitely a taker on this board.]

Mine would be the Ness City, Kansas team photo with Joe wood. This was the same photo used in The Glory of Their Times book.

Greg I just realized that photo covers about all you collect, Boston beer and baseball. Very cool.

Default The King of Clout...1923

Obviously one of my favorite acquisitions over the last decade. TYPE I.

Also of note. This exact photo was one of several from my collection that author Harvey Frommer used in his splendid 2008 book entitled:

"Remembering Yankee Stadium"

Harvey deemed this one worthy of a full page

Yeah man...the Babe is about to unleash hell. One of the best photos EVER of the Sultan. Just goes to show you, a photo does not have to be taken by a Conlon, Thompson, Bain or Burke to be great. This is also evident in your countless snapshots Jimmy. Very cool stuff...one of the best collectons I have seen, truly.

A couple of items from my minor league official game ball collection I'm especially proud of:

Probably the pride of my collection, a 1939 Pacific Coast League ball.

And one with a story, a 1962 Three-I League ball, Ken Blackman, President:

Except Ken Blackman was never president of the Three-I League. Blackman had signed on as president after the 1961 season, but the league folded. I don't know how many of these balls even exist.

And one more, a Warren Giles National League ball with Western International League stamped on the side. Robert B. Abel was president of the WIL from 1946-1952, and Giles started his tenure in 1951, so this is either a '51 or '52 vintage. (I need a better picture, the stamping is somewhat faded but the glare in the photo makes it appear worse than it is.)
